Languages

Tips for Learning More

I am still learning lots and trying to soak up as much as I can. I definitely have a couple tips for learning another language.

Listen to Music

Even if you don't understand all the words, which I guarantee you won't, it is really helpful for pronunciation. Learn the rhythm and soon you will be able to repeat some phrases. Repeat them over and over to make your accent sound more authentic. After a couple times listening to a song, you could look up the lyrics and see if you can recognize anything. Look for cognates and words you've already learned. I recommend starting with a slower song but it is completely up to you and what works best for your learning.

Blog Videos

I have a love for languages and a love for travel. One of my favorite things to do was to just watch vlogs from Spanish or French travel influencers. You can slow the sound down or put on subtitles in any language you like. If you can find something that you are interested in you can branch out to learn more vocabulary in your own hobby. The first vlogger I really enjoyed was Bruno Maltor, a French travel influencer. I really connected with his videos and even though I didn't know every word, it was still really cool to hear the language and try to pick out things that I knew.

Speak, Speak Speak

Talk to your pets, yourself, anyone or anything that will listen. I am attempting to learn two languages at the same time right now which can be pretty confusing. My language mentor is fluent in both Spanish and French and I don't know how she manages to keep her mind in one language at a time. My parents call it Spenglich. Spanish, English, French. When I am just spitting out words and trying to form sentences around the house, it often comes out in parts of every language I know. So don't worry about making mistakes. I promise you will make tons!

Podcasts

If you can find a podcast to listen to while you are washing dishes or cooking, you can

actually learn a lot. I really enjoy Coffee Break Spanish/French. Even just listening to the

language go through your head will help you to better pronunciation and pick out words

you already know. Podcasts are great for long walks or just relaxing of your free time.
